The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a practical, hands-on assessment used to evaluate the clinical and communication skills of internationally educated nurses (IENs) as part of the nursing registration process in Canada, especially in Ontario through the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
The OSCE is a key component of the IEN Competency Assessment Program and is often required after the Nursing Community Assessment Service (NCAS) or substantially equivalent assessments. It simulates real-life nursing scenarios to determine if a candidate is prepared to provide safe, ethical, and competent care in the Canadian healthcare system.
