Identify areas for improvement and promote confidence
NCLEX-RN is challenging, but not impossible with correct preparation. It assesses not only factual knowledge but also important thinking and clinical decisions. With effective study strategies and practice, most candidates can pass in their first attempt.
There is no set number score. The NCLEX uses a computerized adaptive test (CAT) algorithm. If you determine the system with 95% confidence that your capacity is above the passing standard (0.00 logits).
Examination fee: approx. $400
Provincial Regulatory Body Fee: Different by the province (e.g., colleges of Ontario’s nurses, BCCNM)
Credit Assessment (For International Applicants): Additional fees may apply
NCLEX-RN Format and Structure
NCLEX-RN is a computerized adaptive test (CAT).
1. Number of questions: 85 to 150.
2. Time limit: up to 5 hours including alternative brakes.
3. The test ends when it determines your qualification with 95% confidence or ends after all questions/time.
You will receive a minimum of 85 questions and a maximum of 150, including 15 untold questions used for research purposes.
The next generation is the current version of the NCLEX exam, which was launched in April 2023. This emphasizes clinical decisions and decision-making using the landscapes of the realistic case.
Expect to watch 8 to 16 cases-based NGN items within your examination. These include new question types:
Increased many reactions
Matrix/Grid
Pull and leave
Highlighting text
Drop-down North
The exam tests knowledge in the following four major categories (based on the NCSBN test plan):
Safe and effective care environment
Health promotion and maintenance
Psychological integrity
Physical integrity
Each includes subcutaneous subclasses such as pharmacology, infection control, safety, and nursing intervention.
Not necessarily. Each effort is independent. However, frequent failure may indicate intervals in core nursing competencies, which can make the test more difficult. With concentrated preparation, you can improve your performance on your next attempt.
